Biltong has Feline Kidney Disease

BILTONG: Mom noticed that I was drinking a lot of water recently so she took me to the vet to get a check-up and it turns out I have  kidney disease. I am only three years old! Mom is very sad and finds it hard to talk about cause the doctor said it was already very advanced and I must have been born with very bad kidneys. So I am sleeping a lot now and mom is giving me subcutaneous fluids every two days.

I don’t like the fluids at all and find it hard to stay still so mom can’t get a photo of me but she did take a photo of how funny I look after I get the fluids. Mom says they make me look very muscular and chesty!

Even though I am not feeling at my best I still find the energy to chase balls with my brother Zulu:

Even Amarula is feeling sorry for me and is letting me hang out with her!

Cool Cat of the Month: Tacchino

AMARULA: Though you would never catch me dead in a bow tie, I have to say that my neighbor Tacchino looks pretty dapper!

tacchino

I took the time to interview Tacchino (I have a bit of a crush on him…at least I think he is a “him” and not a “they.” He is so fat that he could actually be two cats sharing one head. I just don’t know!)

AMARULA: What are your favorite hobbies?

TACCHINO: Eating, chewing, munching, falling asleep in my food dish and waking up in my food dish.

AMARULA: Nothing else?

TACCHINO: Well, I also like sleeping and rolling in catnip but only when those activities don’t interfere with my eating.

AMARULA: Is there anything else you would like us to know about you?

TACCHINO: My humans have been speaking of putting me on this thing they call a DIEt. In preparation, I have started to teach myself how to open the kitchen cupboards and use the can opener when they aren’t around. I have also begun to steal some of the dog, Major’s, food when no one is looking. He is losing weight rapidly. The humans think he must be sick and keep taking him to the vet, which he hates. Unfortunately, while his suffering feeds my soul it does not nourish my stomach.

Don’t Sweat the Vet Book Published

Mom just published a book on Amazon along with her sister, a veterinarian (we helped too of course but don’t get any credit!). It is called Don’t Sweat the Vet. There are lots of photos of us inside the book. It is a quick read that will help pet owners get the most from their vet visits.

Spring Has Come Again!?!

AMARULA: Thank goodness! No one explained to me that because winter had indeed returned so too would spring likewise make a welcome reappearance! That means I can leave the house and survey my domain!

best part of spring

You know what the best part of spring is? Not the fresh scent of the air, or mom’s tulips that need chewing but the site of the kittens staring at me jealously through the screen!! Hee Hee

Wait a minute…does the return of spring mean that those nasty squirrels are back too??

Zulu Up to No Good

Sometimes when I hear Amarula crying at the door for mom to let her in, I think of alerting mom to her pleas. But then I remember how Amarula always makes fun of Biltong and me and then I start to caterwaul to drown out Amarula’s cries! Mom thinks I’m a real poet and just love to express myself! Hee hee

Biltong even helps me caterwaul:

Feline Deep Thought of the Day

Zulu: Sometimes you wake up on the wrong side of the litter box and everything seems somehow wrong and out of alignment.

But I’ve discovered that all you need to do is look at things from a different angle and suddenly you have a whole new perspective on life!

Winter Has Come Again!?

snow

AMARULA: What’s that you say? This winter thing happens EVERY year?! I wouldn’t have believed it until the snow hit the ground. The cold air and wet snow have relegated me to life indoors again and that means that I am forced to spend time with the kittens. And just as expected, I find them as engaging and intelligent as cardboard. I mean seriously, are we sure these two are even sentient?

I try to hide from them even in mom’s desk (being nincompoops, the kittens don’t like to be near objects associated with the exercise of intellect like desks, books and such)

Nemesis of the Month: Furniture

AMARULA: My nemesis of the month is furniture! Not just any furniture, but items that are low to the ground, like sofas and corner-cupboards. So low that you can’t get under them to retrieve your toys and are forced to wait until The Human finally notices all the playthings are missing! When will this human-centric world finally understand the need for feline-friendly furniture!?

Will No One Rescue Me?

…It has been six minutes now that I have been attached to the tree. Clearly another plot of the neighborhood gang of squirrels to kill me. They must have put crazy glue on the tree trunk in an effort to capture me here until I starve to death. It is likely sleep deprivation will spell my end. It has been 10 minutes since my last seven-hour nap and I don’t know how much longer I can last…where is my silly human when you actually need her? Pray for me…
