This past weekend the basset gang and I gathered for another doggy walk (to raise money for the Animal Welfare Society of Helderberg) at the Blaauwklippen winery. My good buddy Lola (and human Welna) joined us for the walk.
On our way, we met a new basset, Oscar. He asked me where I got my styling sun hat but I had to tell him he would have to go to Canada to get one!
Just like last time, we walked through the beautiful vineyards. Just look at this weather! This scenery! The Olympian-athlete-like-bassets bustling to the finish line!
By the way, note how there is no one in front of us, and contrary to rumours (probably started by that pack of yappy dachshunds at the walk–clearly driven to jealousy by our superior height and ear-length) it is not because we were so slow that everyone passed us!
There were two options: a 1.3 km and four km hike. Because our humans were so tired, we chose to do the 1.3 km hike. Here is a photo of a pack of dogs coming back from the four km hike. (Showoffs! Just look at the way they so boastfully bustle by)
After the walk, all the bassets gathered to talk of their exploits and plans for world-domination
As per usual, Trevor gave me extra tummy rubs
Max, Trevor’s basset, got jealous of my extra tummy rubs and my cool hat so I took it off to make him feel better but Max always has to take things one step too far! He stole Trevor’s hat and engaged in a fashion faux-pas!
Of course, no day is complete for my parents in South Africa without a wine tasting. So I waited patiently outside while they went in for a taste
But then Blaauwklippen told mom and dad that well-behaved dogs such as myself were more than welcome to come on in and join the tasting. I give two-paws up to the red zinfandel!

Hi Charlie, super cool gear you were wearing there, I can just imagine all of Capetown abuzz with wonder and jealousy. Good to Ear from you again.
So true liz! Lots of jealous bassets at the walk! Give your bassets a big hug from me!
Charlie, you have topped off my day! Just got home from seeing cousin Xander!
It is so nice that you still take time to visit your second-fav furred-grandkid!
Bassets and Wine…It does not get better than this! Sweet!
So true–especially when the wineries are dog-friendly (though sadly, my parents did not share the vino!)
Great to read about your adventures as always Charlie, today we are a little less envious than usual as it was 19 here, and Xan and I were out walking the beach with Diane and Cujo, sandals and short sleeves in Canada in March, not so bad.
Very true! i have heard that Canada is having a good spring– but does Canada have penguins on its beaches?
